Environmentally friendly, cost-effective plastic materials handling products

A recent study conducted by UK sustainability consultancy Sustain, found that opting for multi-trip plastic trolleys, tubs and crates over single-trip cardboard boxes or cartons will decrease your carbon footprint.

In order to reach this conclusion, the study involved a comparison of the two material handling solutions. The embodied greenhouse gas emissions for the whole of their life cycle were measured, and raw materials, transports and energy use involved in their manufacture, usage and disposal were all taken into account.

Based on a useable life of 92 returns trips over five years, the research uncovered that plastic handling options have a carbon footprint of less than 30 CO2e kg per unit, while cardboard handling options have a carbon footprint of around 70 CO2e kg per unit.

We were not surprised by the results of the study. “Plastic products from QualityJack have a footprint close to 70 per cent less than single trip cardboard cartons,”

Plastic tubs, crates, trolleys, tall boys, pallets and bins are not only environmentally friendly, they are extremely cost effective. On average, they will pay for themselves after ten return trips, while single-trip cardboard cartons must be constantly replaced.

Further, at the end of their service lifespan all of QualityJack’s multi-trip plastic solutions can be recycled.
